A golf scramble is a team format where every player hits a shot, the team chooses the best one, and everyone plays their next shot from that spot. It repeats until the ball is holed.
Basic scramble rules
- Teams are usually two to four players.
- All players tee off; the team picks the best drive.
- Everyone plays from within a short distance of the chosen ball, keeping it in the same condition (fairway, rough, bunker).
- Continue until holed. Record one team score per hole.
Common variations
- Minimum drives: each player’s drive must be used a set number of times.
- Texas scramble: similar, often with drive requirements.
- Shamble: pick the best drive, then everyone plays their own ball in.
Why scrambles are popular
They are fast, friendly to all skill levels and great for charity events and company outings.
