Country club etiquette is the set of operating habits that keep a private golf course and dining room usable: book the tee time, check in at the range, keep pace, brief your guests, reserve the table, and wear what the club requires. It is not a personality test. At Bella Vista Country Club in Marlboro, New Jersey, the public rules are short. Most of the rest is normal private-club practice you confirm with staff — not a blog’s invented bylaws.
This article covers how a round and a dinner actually run. For clothing lists, use country club dress code, then still ask the pro shop. Membership copy states only that proper golf attire is mandatory.
Operations, not snobbery
Bella Vista is a private club at 100 School Road East, Marlboro, NJ 07746, founded in 1995 and owned and operated by the Beshara family. Membership copy calls the club unpretentious and socially welcoming. That still means the first tee is not a walk-up lot, the range is not anonymous, and the dining room cannot guess your party size.
Call 732-308-4600 for a tour or trial tee time with Anthony Beshara, as the homepage directs. Closed Monday: restaurant, office, golf and pro shop, and range. Hours are on contact; confirm them, because the site has shown more than one set.
Tee times: book them, then honor them
Membership green-fee notes say an advance tee time is required. Do not assume you can show up and squeeze in. Call the pro shop, use the booking method staff gives you, and arrive early enough to check in without rushing the group ahead.
Windows differ by plan. Current 2026 options are on membership:
- Full advertises exclusive weekday and weekend early tee times Tuesday through Sunday.
- Weekday advertises early times Tuesday through Friday, plus six weekend rounds at prevailing green fees.
- Casual Golfer lists golf Tuesday through Sunday, with published starts at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday–Thursday and 10:30 a.m. Friday–Saturday–Sunday.
Playing in a Casual window on Saturday morning does not make you a Full member for that hour. Guests play in the host’s rules. Prospects ask Anthony which trial time is available rather than picking a peak Saturday. Cancel as soon as you know you cannot play. The private 18 listed on the course tour as Par 70, 5,923 yards still has only so many morning slots.
Range and putting green: check in first
Members and guests must check in with the pro shop to use the putting green and driving range. That line is on the membership page. The range is private, not a public bucket barn.
Go to the shop first. Say whether you are a member, a guest, or a prospect. Practice details: driving range in NJ. There is no golf simulator. Winter practice is the outdoor range. Two PGA professionals work the shop. Lessons are listed for men, women, and young adults. If you are taking a lesson, treat the lesson tee as reserved. Do not occupy it as a drop-in stall.
Pace and the round
Bella Vista does not publish a minute-per-round target on the public membership page. Typical private-club pace still applies: be ready when it is your turn, keep up with the group ahead, and let faster groups through if you are searching or teaching. Repair ball marks. Rake bunkers. Replace or fill divots the way the shop asks.
Cart rules are local — ask the shop. Do not invent a cart-path-only bylaw or a rating/slope. Read BVCC local rules on the card in the shop. Phone use is unpublished; follow the group, then ask.
Guests: the member does the briefing
Guest policy is published in pieces, not as a numbered cap. Casual copy says your guests are always welcome. A later Full block describes unescorted guests as a courtesy extended to full members only (that language also appears under a Weekday block). Ask the office how escorted guests, unescorted guests, and trial rounds work for the plan you hold or want. Do not invent a frequency cap.
Book the guest with the tee time. Tell them the club is private, closed Monday, and expects proper golf attire. Meet them at the shop for check-in, including range use, and follow guest-fee instructions that day. A trial tee time is a hosted visit, not a free season pass.
Dining and events: reserve, then show up
Use dining reservations or call 732-308-4600. The dining page is a lunch and dinner menu landing; hours live in the footer and on contact. Do not walk a party of eight into the grill on a Friday at 7 and expect a silently held table.
The Chef’s Table in the Crystal Room is 8–24 guests; reservations are required seven days in advance. Larger rooms: pavilion up to 300 guests, Excelsior Room up to 250 on catering. Event bookings are open to non-members. Check events for the calendar.
Food-and-beverage minimums appear on some Full and Weekday blocks; Casual / Introductory copy describes no food minimums. Confirm which rule applies to your plan.
Attire: mandatory — confirm details with the pro shop
Membership copy repeats proper golf attire mandatory for members and guests. That is the club-true line. Course-tour FAQ text talks about collared shirts, tailored shorts or pants, and no denim or athletic wear on the course. Treat that FAQ language as something to confirm with the pro shop, not as Bella Vista bylaws copied into this post. Dedicated clothing guidance already lives on the dress-code page. Arrive dressed to play. For dinner after golf, ask the dining room what that evening expects.
Learn the house rules in one visit
Call 732-308-4600 and set a tour or trial with Anthony Beshara. Read membership. Ask the pro shop about tee windows, range check-in, guest rules, and attire that day. Ask dining about lead times. Apply at membership-application. Process: how to join a country club.
Frequently asked questions
What is country club etiquette, in one sentence?
Book ahead, check in, keep pace, brief your guests, reserve dining, and follow the club’s attire and local rules.
Do I need to check in just to hit the range?
Yes. Membership copy requires members and guests to check in with the pro shop to use the putting green and driving range.
Is Bella Vista open on Mondays?
No. The club publishes a Monday close for the restaurant, office, golf and pro shop, and range.
Where do I find clothing details?
Start with “proper golf attire is mandatory,” read country club dress code, then confirm with the pro shop or dining room. This post does not invent a Bella Vista clothing bylaw.
Play and dine like you already belong
